The manager at one of our units where we help to support vulnerable adults with Learning Disabilities in the Hampshire area couldn’t praise Careline worker EP enough for all the work that he has been doing and here is what she called in to say…
“…E generally has covered shifts which meant he works alone, however the service users have reported a good relationship with him and have enjoyed his support. They have never called in to say support has been missed or is late. I have been in the service often after E has been or on shift and all the tasks expected of our support staff have been completed and to a good standard and procedures have been followed. E has shown to be flexible, for example if a service user wants a friend to come over for tea, E has supported them to enable this to happen. Some of our service users have been reluctant to have agency staff, but this hasn’t occurred with E and the feedback from service users has been very good…”

“…N is very punctual and brilliant with the clients and she is always thinking of their dignity when doing personal care. N completes all paperwork for all clients personal care.
She was quite shy when she started with the activity centre back in September last year, but as she has worked here on and off for the last 5 months her confidence has grown.

It can be difficult going into a new service, not knowing anyone or how things are run. This didn’t seem to deter Careline worker SA. We had a fantastic comment from an elderly unit in Reading regarding her first shift with them:
“…S was booked in on an incredibly busy day and she showed a huge amount of initiative and did what was asked of her without having to be asked twice. She got involved in the activities and was very creative. She fitted in very well with the team and when she came back the next day, she didn’t disappoint! Professionalism is key as an agency worker. You are sometimes going into services that you have never been to before and you want to make a good, lasting impression. A manager of a children’s centre in Caversham found that Careline worker SW did just this:

When working at a service that you have never been to before, it is important to find the right balance between using your initiative and asking for help from senior members of staff when it is necessary. A learning disability service in Sonning found that Careline worker HS had this balance spot on and kindly told us:
“…H adapted exceedingly well to working with children with learning disabilities. She always consults senior staff when necessary but she also uses her initiative and experience when approaching tasks. She works efficiently and I would be happy to recommend her and also request her in the future…”

As an agency, it is important that we stay on our toes and be ready to act fast. Services often need staff at the very last minute and we need to be prepared to supply this. This wouldn’t be possible if we didn’t have such dedicated and flexible staff. Careline worker SH received some great feedback from a manager of a children’s service in Maidenhead, after she went to help them last minute:
“…I just want to say a massive thank you for sending S on such short notice. S was fantastic! She was professional, polite, engaged very well with the young people and supported all the staff very well. Her professionalism is a credit to you and we would be happy to have her services in the future. Thank you for your calls and checking up on us too, that was brilliant…”
Not only did S respond to this services’ needs at the last minute, but she also made a fabulous first impression. Thank you S! You really are a credit to Careline!

We sometimes provide support to children’s Social Care services and these can include unannounced visits to family homes. These visits are not always easy and it is important to find the right balance between obtaining the information that is required, without being too invasive. Careline workers LB and TM found this balance and a social worker passed on this wonderful feedback from a particular mother, who was receiving these unannounced visits:
“…L was really grateful to L and T for being fun, supportive, respectful and helpful. Please thank them for all of their support…”

Community support organisations often call Careline when they need additional support workers to work with their own. Recently JB and VG took on some of this work and prompted a complimentary response from the organisation:
“…thank you for last week, I have had excellent feedback from our carers and clients. We would have them again if they are available…They arrived on time, found all the clients and met up with carers for double -up calls; they were very experienced…”
